Invisalign Q&A
What is Invisalign?
Invisalign aligners are an innovative, hassle-free way to correct orthodontic issues. They are clear aligners that fit over your teeth to gently coax your teeth into proper position. You change aligners every week or two as your teeth change position, until you’ve achieved the smile you’ve always wanted.
ClearCorrect® and OrthoFX™ are other brands of clear aligners offered by Dr. Elkind. He evaluates your smile to determine which option is best for you.

Why should I consider Invisalign?
Invisalign and other plastic aligners do the same things braces do, without the metal brackets and wires. You may consider plastic aligners because:
- You can remove them to eat and drink
- You can remove them to perform dental hygiene
- People won’t notice you’re wearing them
- They have no wires or brackets that can rub against your gums or break
- You can remove them for special events or sports play
Invisalign treatments are so effective, they may get you your smile corrections faster than braces would.
Who is a candidate for Invisalign?
Clear aligner treatments are effective for most orthodontic concerns.
Some of the types of issues Invisalign, OrthoFX, and ClearCorrect aligners can be used to address include:
- Overbites and underbites
- Crossbites and open bites
- Gapped or crowded teeth
- Generally crooked teeth
Dr. Elkind develops a plan that effectively addresses your orthodontic complaints. Even complex bite issues can be corrected with Invisalign.
What is involved in getting Invisalign?
The first step in getting Invisalign, or any aligner, is a consultation with Dr. Elkind. He’ll determine if your bite concerns are right for Invisalign, ClearCorrect, or OrthoFX, and give you the pros and cons of each treatment.
You’ll then be scheduled for a special 3D scan of your mouth. This scan is used to create your treatment plan, which is sent to the Invisalign (or OrthoFX or ClearCorrect) lab to create your plastic aligners.
Once your aligners are ready, you meet with Dr. Elkind to learn how to use them. Plan on wearing them for about 20 hours every day, even while you sleep, and remove them just for meals and hygiene. Every week or two you’ll switch to the next set of aligners as your smile improves in alignment.
Plan on follow-up appointments every six weeks. At these appointments, Dr. Elkind checks how the aligners are working and answers any questions you have. Depending on your orthodontic needs, treatment could last anywhere from several months to a year or longer.
